When you think about newborn photos, you probably picture a snuggly little baby wrapped up tight, parents glowing with love, and maybe a proud sibling sneaking in for some sweet kisses. That’s exactly what unfolded in my Northeast Minneapolis studio on March 12th, just 19 days after this baby was born on February 22nd.
Studio newborn photos give families the chance to step away from the chaos of those early days at home and enjoy a calm, bright space that’s designed to make the whole experience simple, beautiful, and yes—actually enjoyable.
This session was full of all the good stuff: sweet sibling love, fresh new baby snuggles, and a family leaning into this new chapter together.
Big Brother Moments: The star of the show (besides the baby, of course) was big brother. He was gentle, curious, and so sweet with his new sibling—exactly the kind of dynamic parents hope for when they bring the new baby into the mix. He rocked his sweater from my studio wardrobe and looked effortlessly timeless in every frame.
Mom’s Look: Mom chose one of my favorite dresses from the studio wardrobe. It was flowy, comfortable, and perfect for holding her new baby close while still feeling polished. She looked radiant in every shot—and let’s be honest, having something beautiful to wear without overthinking it makes life a whole lot easier when you’re sleep-deprived.
Baby’s Outfit: The newborn cozied up in a knitted studio piece. Neutral tones, soft texture, and classic style—everything you want for portraits that won’t look dated in a few years.
Dad’s Role: Dad kept it simple with his own shirt, balancing the overall look so that the whole family’s style felt coordinated but not overly matchy.
The combination made for portraits that felt natural, connected, and completely in line with the family’s style.
Not every home is blessed with big windows or walls painted in soft, light tones. Add in a chilly Minnesota March, and the idea of braving the outdoors with a brand-new baby is far from appealing. That’s why my studio in Northeast Minneapolis is such a great option for newborn photos.
Natural Light: The space is filled with gorgeous natural light—bright, clean, and soft. It gives photos that airy look without needing artificial lighting setups.
Minimalistic Design: The studio is intentionally minimalistic so your baby and family are the focus, not busy backgrounds or distracting props.
Weather-Proof: No need to worry about snow, gray skies, or chilly temps. The studio is consistent, comfortable, and cozy—perfect for newborns (and parents running on caffeine and adrenaline).
This setup allows families to focus less on logistics and more on connecting with each other while I do the work of creating timeless portraits.
The sweet spot is typically within the first two to three weeks after birth—when babies are still brand new, snuggly, and sleepy. That said, I always encourage parents not to stress over the “perfect” timing. If your baby is a little older, we’ll still create beautiful portraits. This baby was 19 days old at the session, and as you can see, everything turned out wonderfully. My studio wardrobe is stocked with dresses for moms, sweaters and shirts for dads, and outfits for kids under five. For babies, I have wraps, knitted pieces, and blankets in neutral tones that photograph beautifully. Having access to these pieces means you don’t need to shop, guess what looks good, or stress over coordinating outfits. It’s all ready for you when you walk in.
Most sessions run around one to two hours, give or take. This gives plenty of time for feeding breaks, outfit changes, and all the snuggles you’ll want to capture. I keep things flexible so we can move at the baby’s pace without feeling rushed.
This 19-day-old newborn’s session was such a sweet reminder of why I love photographing families in the studio. The mix of natural light, wardrobe options, and cozy vibes makes it easy for parents to relax and focus on the moments that matter most.
If you’re in Minneapolis or the Twin Cities and considering studio newborn photos, I’d love to welcome you into my Northeast studio. You’ll walk away with timeless images that capture your family’s story—without the stress of overthinking outfits or battling unpredictable Minnesota weather.
