From that first wobbly sit to the gummy grins and curious little fingers—these fleeting stages deserve more than phone snaps and blurry memories. Milestone sessions are designed to document your baby’s first-year moments with intention and heart. Think 3, 6, 9, or 12-month milestones, or just because they’ve changed overnight (again).

These sessions are calm, playful, and baby-led. We keep it simple so their sweet personality shines. No heavy props, no forced poses—just honest, beautiful images you’ll treasure long after the baby curls are gone.

You’ll have access to a curated studio wardrobe and thoughtfully chosen props—so there’s nothing to shop for or plan. Just show up. I’ll take care of the rest.

Step 1: Choose Your Perfect Milestone Session: When planning your baby’s milestone session, you have options: mini milestones, petite sessions, or a cake smash. If you're documenting multiple milestones in the first year, consider my collective membership for savings and special gifts. It's designed to make capturing these precious moments as seamless and joyful as possible. Reach out to learn more!
Step 2: Secure and Prepare for Your Session: Scheduling is a breeze! Choose your date and time from the booking link I’ll send. Once confirmed, you'll receive an agreement and a quick questionnaire. Your session is officially on the books! Expect guides on FAQs, location, and what to wear. The creative fee secures your date and is non-refundable. After your session, enjoy a slideshow of images and select your favorite collection to purchase.
Step 3: Final Check and Get Ready for Fun: A few days before our session, I’ll confirm the time and location with you. If anyone’s feeling under the weather, we can discuss rescheduling. This is also a great time for any last-minute questions. Cake smashes are typically an hour, petite sessions are 30 minutes, and mini milestones are 15 minutes. Running late? Let me know right away. Breathe, relax, and get ready for a fun experience!
Step 4: Enjoy and Choose Your Favorites: Within a couple of weeks after your session, you'll get an email from me with your photos ready to view. You'll have 24 hours to marvel at your images in a slideshow and choose which collection to purchase. Then, you'll have a whole month to select the specific digital files and products for your collection—no pressure at all! If you prefer to see and feel album covers and paper types, I have samples at my studio and would be delighted to set up a time for you to come by.

Cake Smash Sessions: These signature sessions have no strict time limits (because frosting happens). Typically, we spend about 30 minutes capturing portraits, followed by cake fun.
Petite Milestone Sessions: A relaxed 30-minute studio session that can include the whole family.
Mini Milestones: A short and sweet 15-minute session—perfect for baby-only portraits in the studio.

Got Questions for a Baby Milestone Photo Session

What is a baby milestone session?: A baby milestone photo session is when you document all the milestones your baby is achieving. Like Tummy Time; when they can hold their head up strong while on their bellies. Or sitting; when they can sit unassisted. This is a HUGE milestone and makes for the cutest photos! And don't forget that first birthday. Cake smashes are popular but portraits are just as important. At mQn Photography whether your child hits a developmental milestone or an age milestone (yes 2 years old is a milestone) she's there to capture it all. And if you sign up for the membership collective, she might just become your child's favorite auntie.
When do I schedule my baby's milestone portraits?: Michele books well in advance. Plan on at least 6 weeks before you want your session. Michele is also very flexible so if you plan on a sitter session but your child is not yet sitting unassisted, she will reschedule to make sure that milestone is documented.
Can we schedule the session around my baby's nap time?: Of course! The best time for most babies is 10 am; however, if that is when your baby naps let's schedule for after. Michele schedules studio sessions from 10 am until 2 pm at her natural light studio in NE Minneapolis.
Can you include parent and/or sibling shots?: If you schedule a petite session or a cake smash session parents and siblings are most definitely welcomed. However, a mini milestone session is baby only. With only 15 minutes there just isn't enough time to focus on the baby and family.
