Tips to Make Your Children More Cooperative During a Photo Session

Parents love taking as many photos as possible of their children, but siblings aren’t always in the mood to get along or cooperate.

If you’ve decided to invest in a professional photo session, but are worried that your children might be fighting or uncooperative most of the time, here are a few tips that can help.

-        Tire them out a bit. This is an age-old piece of advice, but it works. If your kids have a lot of energy that usually leads to fights, let them have fun and be adventurous during their session. Once they’re feeling a little tired, your photographer can move onto those more tranquil, candid moments.

-        Incorporate something they love. By basing a photo session on something your kids love to do, they’ll be far more willing to cooperate during the shoot. This can be anything from playing dress-up to drawing pictures.

-        Turn it into a game. If the photo session feels more like a game, your kids will be far more willing to cooperate. Instead of forcing them to pose, get them to play instead. Depending on how old your kids are, something as simple as peek-a-boo can work. Getting your kids to have a race also works really well. Your photographer gets a few action shots and it tires them out a bit.

-        Play with them. Whether you get dad to toss your child into the air or you have a tickle monster session, this usually gives your photographer the chance to get some cute shots. Interacting with your kids in front of the camera can also help them feel more comfortable.

-        Give them something to do. When your child can focus on an object, it helps take their focus off the camera. If you’re photographing your younger child with your newborn addition, ask your child questions about their new sibling, get them to sing a song, or ask them to point out their nose or feet. You can also give your child something to play with to keep them distracted and engaged.

Along with these tips, you can also rely on your photographer to guide you through your session. They’ve worked with countless children, so they know what works and what doesn’t.
