A Minneapolis Newborn Session to Remember

Capturing the wonder of new life is always an honor, but it's extra special when I get to do it twice with the same baby. Today, I'm sharing a beautiful newborn session from the studio. I was able to get to the hospital for a Fresh 48 but this time at the studio I was able to focus on big sister and capture them and the family together.

A Beautiful Newborn Session: Sibling Bond at the Studio

Baby Madelyn was born on June 9th, 2022 at 12:59pm. She weighed in at 6lbs 6oz and was 20 inches long. Her parents were so excited to finally meet her and shower her with love. When I asked mom how she felt when she first saw her new baby she said "So much love and excitement. I wondered if it would feel the same the second time around, but after months of pregnancy and anticipation, there was just as much excitement and awe seeing Madelyn for the first time"

Madelyn's Joyful Arrival: A Southdale Fairview Birth Story in Edina, MN

The Southdale Fairview hospital in Edina, MN was where Madelyn made her entrance into the world. Mom's labor was induced at 8am that morning and by the afternoon baby was ready to meet her parents. Husband and wife were both present for Madelyn's birth and they were overflowing with happiness.

You know I remember doing their holiday mini session when they brought in their ultrasound pictures so they could do a holiday announcement.  That session was so cute and I remember hoping I'd get the opportunity to photograph them again.

I asked mom what was the first thing she thought when she found out she was pregnant and she said she wondered how they were going to manage two children while still trying to figure out how to parent an energetic three year old.  But she mentioned recently that it's been exciting "to see her be a big sister and go back to the newborn phase. I am loving all the newborn cuddles" Harper who is 3. Has been so sweet with Maddie asking for hugs, kisses, and cuddles.

Tiny Details and Big Love: Newborn Photo Session in Minneapolis

Madelyn's newborn photos captured her tiny details and all the love surrounding her. Madelyn & Big Sister Harper were natural in front of the camera. Being able to document this brand new chapter in this family's life is truly an honor.

When I asked mom what her favorite part of the newborn session was she said that she "loved being able to capture the newness of baby. Things and time move so fast and I’m so happy to have the earliest moments documented".

Preparing for Perfection: Newborn Session in the Minneapolis Studio

Newborn sessions are always so special to me, and I loved getting to prepare for them.  I asked mom how she prepared for Madelyn's!  She mentioned browsing Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration - she had ended up ordering a onesie with Madelyn’s name and swaddle that she fell in love with and we used those during her Fresh 48 Session.

One of my favorite things to ask clients is what advice would they give to parent's thinking about scheduling a newborn session.

"Start getting ready earlier than you think you have to so you don’t feel rushed or stressed once photos starts, inevitably the baby will need to eat or a diaper change or something else unplanned will hinder your timeline. This helped us be ready to just enjoy the session".

This is a great tip!!

There are all kinds of things to worry about before and during a newborn session.  Mom was worried about her baby crying through the whole session or that their toddler would throw a tantrum. There is usually some crying and rarely tantrums, and it's quite normal for toddlers to run and jump around but I'm prepared for this and I really enjoy that part of my job (believe it or not).  I know I'm still able to so many great shots for the family.

Cherishing the Little Moments: The Importance of Newborn Sessions

Newborns only stay little for a short time and it goes by so fast. That's why newborn sessions are so important! They capture all the tiny details and big emotions of those first few weeks of life. If you're a new parent (or soon-to-be parent), I hope this session inspires you to book your own newborn photographer. Trust me, you won't regret it!
