What to Do If It Snows on the Day of Your Photo Session

If you have booked a photo session during the snowy months, you might be wondering what you should do if the skies decide to open up on the day.

If the weather does turn bad on the day of your shoot, there is always the option to reschedule but for some people, this isn’t always an option.

It should be said that snow can actually make for some beautiful photos and it isn’t necessarily a disaster. Here are a few tips that will come in handy as you prepare for the possibility of snow on the day of your shoot.

*Before I get started I want to mention that at the end of this post I want to share with you a photographer from California who has a post about Mother/Daughter portraits that you won't want to miss.  Keep scrolling and let's get started.

  • Choose clothing that will work in snowy weather conditions. While you’re choosing an outfit for your shoot, choose a few items that will work if it snows too. For example, pairing your cute dress with some snow boots works really well.
  • Do your best to stay calm. It’s important to remember that your photographer knows how to make the best of different weather conditions, so while the skies might look gloomy, your photographer will know just how to take advantage of this to make your photos look amazing.
  • Change your location. If your shoot was going to be outside, why not think about a few indoor options that would work just as well – even your own home can make for some beautiful portraits. And who knows, the weather might just clear up after an hour.
  • Trust your photographer. Your photographer wants to give you the best possible results so listen to his/her suggestions for how to make the most of your photoshoot if it does start to snow.
  • Move your shoot out by an hour or two. Speak to your photographer about the possibility of moving the time of your shoot to see if the storm clears up.

At the end of the day, the more you embrace the weather and just have fun with it, the more amazing your photos will look.

As promised I want to share with you photographer Robyn Scherer, a San Diego High School Senior and Family Photographer, who has a post about Mother/Daughter Portraits.  Head over to her blog to read all about it.  And if you live in Minnesota feel free to book your session at my Motherhood Event on April 19th!
