What to expect at your maternity session.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! Here are few tips on how to prepare and what to expect during your Maternity Session.

When to schedule.

The best time to schedule your maternity session is between week 28 and week 34. I want you to be photographed with a big beautiful belly and to be comfortable throughout your session. Having said that, the date is really based on what you feel most comfortable with and how big your belly is. Booking 2-3 months in advance is the ideal time to make sure you have a spot with me. Sessions are held at my Northeast Minneapolis studio as well as on-location, outdoors if weather permits. Studio Sessions tend to be more simple and minimalistic than the outdoor shots. Sessions (both studio and outdoor) are scheduled either as petite 30 minute sessions or full signature session. Make sure to arrive on time for your session.

What to wear

I offer wardrobe for my maternity clients , though you are welcome to choose your own outfit too. Wardrobe is a key in your photo session and can set the mood for your images. When you are picking a color scheme please bear in mind that these colors will be the colors displaying on your wall so you would like your images to match with the interior of your house. If you have your partner or other kids joining you in the photos it’s always a great idea to coordinate the whole family. Your choice of underwear is also important. Make sure you have a strapless bra with you. Also keep your undergarment color to nude and beige and choose one seamless (invisible under dresses) and one boy short (for under sheer dresses or skirts). Don't forget the feet. Since most maternity sessions in the studio are barefoot you might want to get a pedicure.

Hair & Makeup

Professional hair and make-up are suggested and if you need help locating a hair and make up provider, I have excellent suggestions. Please don’t forget about your nails, especially when there will be many poses with your hands holding / on your belly.

After your session

The editing process will take about 2 weeks. I will give time and attention to each image to make it perfect for you. About 2 weeks after your session you will receive an e-mail with a link to your gallery. You will get to select your favorite images and create a custom print and/or digital collection that works for you.

FAQ

How do I schedule a maternity session?

If you already know your due date, now its time to book a session. Your session fee is not due until two weeks before your session but in order to get on the calendar you need to schedule now to secure your portrait session. To get started please click here to BOOK YOUR SESSION.

Can I schedule my newborn session too?

Yes, of course! And when you book your newborn session at the time of booking your maternity session, you will actually receive a petite maternity session complementary! Your due date will be added to the calendar and then when your baby arrives , I will contact you to confirm the session date.

Can my spouse and or kids join me for the session?

Absolutely, all close family members are welcomed and free of any additional charge in the studio. If grandparents (your parents), a nanny, or any extended family are joining in an on location session then there is a $25 fee per additional adult.
